Defest 2010

The whole idea came from a meeting with Kate Harris (De Stafford Confederation Manager) & Mark Jones (Caterham Festival & Party in the Park Organiser).

It was decided to provide Caterham with a 2 day music event to showcase local talent ranging from all types of act and many different genre of music. Kate informed me that the Students involved with the Tandridge Confederation requested a Talent Contest and so the foundations was set and with the support of De Stafford Management and Governors a date was set and a vision was born “ a cheap affordable days entertainment for the whole family supplied by the talent and abilities of the local community “

As soon as we had the basics, we called a press release and invited Councillors, Police Inspectors, Youth Workers, Local Press, Rotarians , Nursery Managers, Tandridge Housing Officers, Local businessmen and of course some of the independent movers and shakers of Caterham who just keep providing us with these fantastic events.

The response we had was a buzz in itself with everyone showing support and identifying that also this is what the people of Caterham want. We discussed how we could involve as many people as possible to make it a real community event and some great ideas came up. We did however have one Point made that might have become a problem and that was the date we had in mind is world cup time and if England is playing we might suffer a little bit there. After I explained it’s no problem and that I will decline the offer to play should they ask everyone was at ease and Defest was born?

This event is open for as many people to help get involved and be part of this magical event that I promise will be a fantastic day out.
